“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”

-Fred Rogers

Hi, I’m Sebastian Shinwell

I have a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. I am a Registered Social Worker (OCSWSSW #843279) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). I also work in the criminal legal system as a Partner Assault Response (PAR) program counsellor working with men who have been charged with domestic violence. Prior to my practice, I worked at the Community Music Schools of Toronto (formerly Regent Park School of Music) as a music instructor and facilitating music workshops for youth in custody.

Previous to my social work education, I obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in music composition and a Master of Arts (MA) in musicology at York University. My thesis during my MA was focused on the capacity of music as a narrative art form. This laid the foundation for my interest in the stories we tell and how those stories can have an important role in our life.
